Australian Technical Sports Apparel Company and Platform Join Acclaimed California-Based Triathlon to Support Children’s Hospital Los Angeles’ Pediatric Cancer Research Program

Malibu, California (August 11, 2021) – Malibu Triathlon, recently acquired by Super League Triathlon (SLT), is excited to announce that 2XU, a world leader in technical sports apparel and compression, is joining the acclaimed race as the title sponsor ahead of its annual 34th event on September 25 and 26 in Malibu, California. The event welcomes enthusiasts, international athletes, celebrities, and Fortune 500 companies, all competing to support the Pediatric Cancer Research Program at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, which focuses on discovering cures and preventative solutions for childhood cancers. With this new partnership, Malibu Triathlon is thrilled to announce its new title: 2XU Malibu Triathlon presented by Bank of America.

2XU perfectly aligns with the Malibu Triathlon as the brand was launched when a former professional triathlete, Jamie Hunt, turned his passion for sports into an obsession with performance fabrics. As a sponsor, 2XU has exclusivity over the triathlon apparel category for the event.

To date, the Malibu Triathlon has raised over $15 million to support the Pediatric Cancer Research Program at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, with Hollywood celebrities including Matthew McConaughey, Jennifer Lopez, Scott Eastwood, Luke Hemsworth, Zac Efron, and more competing to support this worthy cause over the years.

“The partnership with 2XU aligns two brands with similar ambitions,” said Martin Cawte, Chief Commercial Officer of Super League Triathlon. “Both 2XU and Malibu Triathlon are about creating communities, highlighting the inclusive nature of the sport and creating unforgettable experiences. By working together, along with our other key stakeholders we’ll continue to build a strong community feel and inspire people to swim, bike and run.”

“The appeal of partnering with Malibu is that the event represents what triathlon is about, inclusivity for all levels, it’s about getting people out to try the sport and the opportunity to partner with Malibu and SLT to create an experience that many people will never forget is something we are passionate about at 2XU, ”said Luke O’Shea, Chief Marketing Officer at 2XU. “It has been such an iconic event for many years and with our rich heritage in triathlon along with the ability to amplify our core message of creating a fitter, healthier world physically, socially and mentally across not just athletes but the wider network was something vitally important for us.”

The Malibu Triathlon will welcome more than 5,000 participants and 10,000 spectators during the September event, with two race options available. The Olympic Distance (1.5K Swim, 40K Bike, 10K Run) race takes place on Saturday, September 25, and the Classic Distance (½ Mile Swim, 17 Mile Bike, 4 Mile Run) takes place on Sunday, September 26. The SLT Pro Race will be the newest addition to the Malibu Triathlon, taking place at noon after the Olympic distance race ends on Saturday.
