The 2XU Malibu Triathlon is proud to present our inaugural Club Cup!
This year we’re upping the competition with our Tri Club Cup. 2 race distances to choose from, 2 size categories to qualify for, a largest club award, and more! There’s plenty of opportunity for a weekend of thrilling finishes, fun camaraderie, and healthy competition. See below for more information:
CLUB CATEGORIES & SCORING
Club awards are not gendered, they are only for the club, this is designed to encourage participation across both gender minimums and distances. Relays do not qualify for the Club Cup this year. To qualify for the Club Cup you must meet the requirements of any of the following categories:
SMALL DIVISION
ELIGIBILITY
Maximum of 9 club members racing over all distances and categories
AND
Minimum of 2 athletes competing in the male division of Race X
AND
Minimum of 2 athletes competing in the female division of Race X
SCORING
Scores are simply the cumulative time from the fastest 2 male athletes and fastest 2 female athletes in the same distance
It is possible to win both the Olympic distance and Classic distance club competition
Lowest cumulative time wins their respective race
LARGE DIVISION
ELIGIBILITY
Minimum of 10 club members racing over all distances and categories
AND
Minimum of 5 athletes competing in the male division of Race X
AND
Minimum of 5 athletes competing in the female division of the Race X
SCORING
Scores are simply the cumulative time from the fastest 5 male athletes and fastest 5 female athletes in the same distance
It is possible to win both the Olympic distance and Classic distance club competition
Lowest cumulative time wins their respective race

Simply put, the 2XU Malibu Triathlon wants to promote healthy, sustainable, and balanced club competition. You must have the minimum number of athletes across both genders for the same race distance to qualify.
EXAMPLES:
SMALL CLUB:
Club Blue has 10 members racing over both distances. Their athletes are split as follows: 3 male athletes are racing in the Olympic Distance, 3 female athletes are racing in the Olympic Distance, 2 male athletes are racing in the Classic Distance, and 2 female athletes are racing in the Classic Distance. Club Blue would be eligible for awards in both the Olympic and Classic categories.
Club Yellow has 6 members racing over both distances. Their athletes are split as follows: 2 male athletes are racing in the Classic distance, 2 male athletes are racing in the Olympic Distance, and 2 female athletes are racing both the Classic and Olympic Distance. Club Yellow would be eligible for awards in both the Olympic and Classic categories.
LARGE CLUB:
Club Turquoise has 12 members racing over both distances. Their athletes are split as follows: 1 female athlete is racing in the Olympic, 5 male athletes are racing in the Classic Distance and 6 female athletes are racing in the Classic Distance. Club Turquoise would only be eligible for Classic Awards.
Club Orange has 22 members racing over both distances. Their athletes are split as follows: 7 male athletes are racing in the Olympic Distance, 7 female athletes are racing in the Olympic Distance, 4 male athletes are racing in the Classic Distance, and 4 female athletes are racing in the Classic Distance. Club Orange would only be eligible for Olympic Awards.
